What to see and do on southwest Florida's Sun Coast

• Beachcombing and Shelling can be as formal or as informal as you like. Local shells take a great variety, and it's hard to get much more relaxed than beachcombing at your back door. The beaches here are fine clean sand, but bring your flip-flops - the top of the sand can be Hot.

• The gulf waters surrounding Sanibel are warm and protected, with a shallow sandy bottom. No need for scuba-diving lessons here - there's no need for all that equipment. Swimming and snorkeling are the preferred ways to get to know the saltwater species that abound in our local waters. If you wish, you can also arrange to dive in Florida's crystal-clear freshwater springs.

• Saltwater Fishing is available from a variety of charter operators, and small boats are available, or just drop a line from shore while you work on your tan. Local charter operators can handle the details of fishing licenses and meals, and you can bring your catch back for dinner.

  The Beachview Golf Club is a semi-private championship course close to Sundial resort on the banks for the Sanibel River. Tee times are available at discounted rates for non-members.

• Dining Out is easy on Sanibel. A variety of cuisines and range of prices will satisfy almost anyone - or bring your own, and dine on the beach tonight...
